We would like to welcome everyone for an Artist Talk and Soup evening at Artica's workshop with our current printmaking artist in residence Giancarlo Scaglia on Wednesday, August 21st at 7pm.

Scaglia will predominantly talk about his site-specific printmaking projects during his stay at Artica in Longyearbyen and Pyramiden, as well as introducing earlier projects from his hometown Lima in Peru and internationally.

Giancarlo Scaglia studied visual arts at the school of fine arts in Lima, this is also where he developed his career as an artist.

Scaglia's work reinterprets armed conflicts from the 80's and 90's that took place in Peru. His interest in recontextualizing these events within the field of art led him to question the origin of all that is avant-garde and to ask himself what determines whether an action or gesture is art.

Since Scaglia won first prize for emerging artists Chandon in Buenos Aires in 2008 his work has been exhibited in various solo shows. Among these, his project Stellar (2011 -2014) has been shown in Paris, Lima, and Toronto as well as several other places. In addition to solo shows also participated in several group shows.

Next to his own work Scaglia has also established Revolver Galeria in Lima. The gallery was formed to promote the contemporary art scene of Peru.

Scaglia is nominated by Artica´s Key Partner the Queen Sonja Print Award.
