Adults Workshop: 1/1 Printmaking visions on the uniqueness of one's touch

  • Artica Svalbard Longyearbyen, Svalbard, 9170 Svalbard and Jan Mayen (map)

Join Artica Svalbard resident artist Inma Herrera for this adults workshop exploring different printing techniques.

We live in times dominated by digital technologies. More and more we relegate the making of things to machines. One could say that in the course of our daily lives we are losing the grip of things in a literal sense. Are we still engaged with the touch and grasp of our hands?

This course is an invitation to completely get hands-on to understand the flexibility and openness of printmaking as a medium of expression. Far from being complex, it is more a matter of understanding basic concepts and getting immersed in the making. To loosen up and reawaken the agency of one's hands, we will leave aside the potentialities of an edition, to focus on the possibilities of creating original prints: 1/1

To do so, participants are invited to bring images, pictures, cut-outs, or texts that carry a special meaning for them. We will use that material as a trigger to reinterpret them by means of mark-making. What can we add or what can we remove with those techniques and incorporate our unique touch into it? During the workshop, students will get familiar with three direct, fresh, and unique printmaking methods: drypoint, monotype and chine collé to explore the manifold ways of integrating them in the creation of their original prints. At the end of the workshop, there will be a small discussion and each participant will share their experience. Everyone will be given their own prints to take home.

Techniques: Drypoint, monotype and chine collé.

Materials: Students can bring photographs, pictures and any kind of images they consider inspiring and they would like to use during the workshop.

This workshop is Free and open to all
