Film Screening: Terhi Nieminen, Granada

  • Artica Svalbard Postboks 321 LONGYEARBYEN Norway (map)

We are pleased to welcome local artist and filmmaker Terhi Nieminen to Artica for a screening of her award-winning short film Granada.

Granada follows the story of Terhi’s first car, which has broken down beyond easy repair. Money is tight, and fixing the car is expensive. Terhi’s mother insists on getting rid of the vehicle that has become a money pit. Still, there is hope: if repaired, the car could be driven to Germany and sold for a higher price on the used-car market. Yet letting go of an old, historic car proves harder than expected.

The film received the New Wave Award at the Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy in 2022, granted by the Finnish Film Foundation.

"Authentic and raw […] The film tells a seemingly small story about hardships in relationships, finally letting go, and the possibility of new beginnings." – Jury statement
