Longyearbyen skyline, September 2024
We are pleased to welcome the return of writer Clara Arnaud to Longyearbyen for the second part of her residency at Artica Svalbard. During her stay she will continue the writing workshops started earlier this year which explore new ways of storytelling that move beyond the human-centered perspective and reflect our entangled relationships with Arctic life forms and ecosystems.
During the workshops we will question the traditional boundaries between nature and culture, science and poetry, humans and non-humans. Through simple writing exercises, shared texts, and relaxed conversation over tea and biscuits, we’ll experiment with language and narrative to tell stories of transformation, disappearance, and encounter. Participants will be invited to create short texts rooted in their personal experience with Svalbard and the Arctic environment.
This is not a course in creative writing, but a space for reflection, experimentation, and connection.
Who can join? The workshops are free and writers of all levels are welcome, texts can be written in English or your native language. You’re free to share or keep your writing private.
While each session stands alone, joining both will offer the richest experience. Please bring a laptop or your favourite writing materials (paper and pens will also be available).
