Artists in Residence: Open Studio

  • Artica Svalbard Vei 608-3 9170 Longyearbyen (map)

If you are curious about what Artica’s current residents are working on, join us for an evening of short presentations and open studio with artists Ashley Middleton, Lilian Kroth, Mhairi Killin and Thomas Abercromby.

This informal gathering offers a chance to hear about their practices, learn how their projects are unfolding on Svalbard, and enjoy good company.

About the Artists:

Ashley Middleton is an artist and researcher exploring relationships between body, technology, and environment through installation, sound, video, and photography. Her work brings together scientific inquiry and sensory experience to consider attention, ritual, and ecological awareness.

Mhairi Killin is a visual artist from the Isle of Iona whose work explores relationships between land, sea, and human and non-human life. Working across drawing, print, sculpture, and film, she examines how belief systems shape island environments and identities.

Lilian Kroth is a researcher working between philosophy, science, and art. Her practice focuses on climate, Earth observation, and remote sensing, investigating how technologies like satellite imagery shape our understanding of the natural world.

Thomas Abercromby is a visual artist and curator working across film, installation, and socially engaged practice. His work explores collective care and social imagination, often using scent to investigate memory, identity, and environmental change.

This event is free and open to all – no booking required.
