We are very pleased to welcome the return of writer Clara Arnaud and the creative writing workshops at Svalbard Museum.
Over three workshops participants will have the opportunity to work within this unique setting and draw inspiration from the museum’s collections and surroundings. Objects and images carry stories from the past — sometimes they reflect our own experiences, sometimes they spark entirely new ones. Through writing, we will bring seemingly inanimate artefacts to life and explore the narratives they might hold.
The first workshop begins with a short guided tour of the museum’s collection led by the museum’s researcher in historical archaeology, Anatolijs Venovcevs. Using selected artefacts as starting points, Clara will guide participants through a series of writing prompts, exercises, and conversations designed to unlock creativity and explore the stories embedded in objects.
The second and third workshops offer time to delve deeper into the writing process. Participants will continue developing their texts, share work in progress, and receive feedback from both Clara and fellow attendees. These sessions are not a course in creative writing, but rather a space for reflection, experimentation, and connection.
As part of Artica Svalbard’s annual commissioned text series, Artica Writings, texts produced and developed during the workshops will be considered for inclusion in the 2027 edition.
