Introduction to Screen Printing: Black & White and Multi-Colour Printing

Led by Kamil Kak, Artist-in-Residence

Artica Svalbard invites you to a two-day introduction to screen printing led by artist-in-residence Kamil Kak. This hands-on workshop is open to everyone, and no prior experience is required.

When: Tuesday 20 January and Wednesday 21 January, 18:00–21:00
Where: Artica Svalbard, vei 608.3 (next door to the fire station)

Across both evenings, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of screen printing through a combination of performative drawing and practical printmaking. Each session will begin with a short warm-up exercise using drawing as a way to generate images, before moving into printing.

On the first day, the focus will be on creating and printing a strong black-and-white image, learning the basics of screen preparation, ink application, and printing techniques. On the second day, participants will explore multi-colour printing through layering, with an introduction to colour separation methods, resulting in vibrant, finished prints to take home.

The aim of the workshop is to provide a solid foundation and the confidence to continue experimenting with screen printing independently. The workshop will also contribute to Kamil Kak’s ongoing artistic research during his residency at Artica Svalbard.

Please bring:

  • Clothes you don’t mind getting ink on (aprons can be provided)

This workshop is suitable for beginners and for those with some prior experience.
The workshops are free and we have 8 places available.

To reserve a spot, please contact workshops@articasvalbard.no.

We will prioritise participants who can attend both days; however, if space allows, the workshop is also open to those who are only able to join on Tuesday or Wednesday.
