Soghra Khurasani is a printmaker based in Vadodara, Gujarat. She received her postgraduate degree in printmaking from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda (2010) and her undergraduate degree in painting from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam (2008). Her work has been exhibited widely, including the 35th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts (2023), where she received a Special Mention, and solo exhibitions at TARQ, Mumbai (Grounded, 2025; Shadows under my sky, 2021), and Gitler & ______, New York (SKIN, 2018). She has participated in residencies in Germany, Iran, and India, and was nominated for the Queen Sonja Print Award in 2024.
Khurasani’s practice often uses the metaphors of scars, wounds, and skin to explore hidden histories, trauma, and ecological change. Printmaking for her is a visceral process: incising and layering plates, leaving marks that suggest both damage and renewal.
During her residency at Artica Svalbard, Khurasani will develop a new series of multi-plate etchings. She is particularly drawn to the scars visible in Svalbard’s landscape—melting glaciers, thawing permafrost, exposed layers of ground—and how these natural processes echo the incisions and textures of her prints. Alongside studio work, she hopes to engage with the local community to explore how people live with these transformations, creating connections between artistic gesture, environmental change, and collective memory.
