Nastassja Simensky during field work in Longyearbyen, nominated in 2024
Artica Svalbard and the Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA) are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2027 OCA + Artica Svalbard Residency Programme.
Application deadline: 17 August 2026
Located in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Artica Svalbard offers artists the opportunity to live and work in one of the world’s most unique and rapidly changing environments. The residency provides time and space for artistic research, reflection, and production while engaging with the social, environmental, and geopolitical realities of the High Arctic.
Svalbard is a place where many of today’s most pressing questions converge—climate change, geopolitics, migration, resource extraction, identity, and community. Through its residency programme, Artica Svalbard supports artists who wish to explore these themes while developing new perspectives, knowledge, and creative approaches.
The residency is open to Norwegian and Norway-based visual artists with an interest in the polar regions and/or the global conversations and challenges emerging from the High North.
Residencies have a minimum duration of six consecutive weeks, with dates arranged according to both the artist’s availability and Artica Svalbard’s residency schedule.
Applications are submitted through OCA’s eApply platform. See here for more details.
We look forward to welcoming a new group of artists to Svalbard in 2027.
