Applications open to NFFO members for Artica Svalbard Funded Residencies 2027

Are you working on a non-fiction project related to the Arctic or the high north? NFFO, in collaboration with Artica Svalbard, invites its members to apply for a writing residency in Longyearbyen.

Do you explore topics such as Arctic landscapes and ecosystems, climate and environmental change, geopolitics and governance, cultural heritage, migration, resource use or everyday life in remote communities? Do you translate Icelandic, Greenlandic, Danish, Sami, Swedish or Gaelic non-fiction? And do you want the opportunity to further develop your work in completely new surroundings?

NFFO's collaboration with Artica Svalbard gives NFFO members the opportunity to live and work in Svalbard for a period of four weeks to three months.

Artica Svalbard offers:

  • Workspace in a shared studio and workshop

  • Free travel and accommodation during the residency

  • Access to a library and other local resources

  • Opportunities for excursions outside Longyearbyen during your stay

Participants are expected to support the programme's purpose and are expected to contribute during their stay, for example in the form of a lecture, a conversation or a presentation.

A stay in Svalbard can be very inspiring, but also demanding. The two NFFO members who are awarded a stay should therefore have a strong motivation to spend time in Svalbard – both professionally and personally. You can read more about the programme and residency here.

For further details about how to apply visit the NFFO residency page here.

The application deadline for stays in 2027 is June 1, 2026. Applications should be sent to the Norwegian Non-Fiction Authors and Translators Association via the membership portal .
Questions can be directed to medlem@nffo.no .
