As Artica Svalbard celebrates its tenth anniversary, we are delighted to share a new documentary film reflecting on a decade of artistic exploration, collaboration and exchange in the High Arctic.
Since its founding in 2016, Artica Svalbard has welcomed artists and writers from around the world to live and work in Longyearbyen, providing time and space for research, experimentation and the development of new ideas.
Artica Svalbard: 10 Years brings together the voices of artists, founders, collaborators and members of the local community to reflect on the organisation's journey and the relationships that have shaped it.
Through personal stories and reflections, the film explores what it means to arrive in Svalbard, to encounter its extraordinary landscape and community, and to develop artistic work in a place undergoing profound environmental and social change.
Looking back at Artica's beginnings and its evolution over the past decade, the documentary highlights the importance of artistic freedom, curiosity and meaningful exchange. It also considers how the encounters and connections made through the residency programme can resonate far beyond an artist's time in Longyearbyen.
Above all, the film is a celebration of the people who have helped shape Artica Svalbard over its first ten years, and an invitation to consider the possibilities of the decade ahead.
