Exploring More-Than-Human Futures: Celine Charveriat in Residence

Joining Artica Svalbard this month, Celine Charveriat brings together perspectives from policy, research, and the arts to explore new approaches to climate adaptation.

Working across policy, research, and international cooperation for nearly 30 years, Charveriat’s recent work increasingly focuses on the intersection of arts, science, and environmental futures. She is the founder of Pro(to)topia, a think-and-do network exploring pathways towards green and caring societies grounded in interdependence and care.

During her residency, Charveriat will develop Noah’s Ark 2.0: Imagineering Just Coadaptation in Svalbard, an arts-based participatory foresight project that asks what climate adaptation might look like if the needs of reindeer, tundra, and other more-than-human beings were valued equally to those of humans.

Through conversations with scientists, scenario-building exercises, and a community workshop, the project aims to explore new imaginaries for coexistence, interspecies equity, and adaptation in the Arctic.

We look forward to following the development of the project during her time in Longyearbyen.
