Clara Arnaud features in Earth Rising Volume II
We’re delighted to see former Artica resident Clara Arnaud featured in Earth Rising Volume II: Messages from the Pale Blue Dot, a new collection of commissions produced by Artangel and released on 24 September 2026.
Earth Rising brings together artists, poets, writers and musicians from around the world to create new messages for our planet. Inspired by the Golden Record sent into space aboard Voyager 1 and 2 almost fifty years ago, the project turns the idea back towards Earth: rather than introducing humanity to extraterrestrial life, it asks artists to make contributions that re-introduce humanity to itself.
For Volume II, twelve new commissions explore social justice, environmental collapse, displacement, grief, borders and our search for common ground. The participating artists span Bolivia, France, Italy, Trinidad and Tobago, China and the UK, with works ranging from experimental music and spoken word to folk, steelpan and choral compositions.
Clara Arnaud developed her contribution following her residency at Artica Svalbard, where her research and writing engaged with the Arctic environment and the profound changes taking place across the region. Artica is one of the international residency partners contributing to Volume II, alongside organisations in Trinidad and Tobago, Bolivia, New Zealand, China and Mauritius.

Clara Arnaud is a French writer, winner of the Ecology Novel Prize in France. Her literary work—both fiction and non-fiction—explores political and ecological themes, questioning our way of inhabiting the world. She has travelled extensively off the beaten track, mostly on foot or horseback, and has also worked as a consultant in international cooperation, leading missions across sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. Since 2022, Clara has dedicated herself to writing and activism focused on the preservation of mountain ecosystems. She lives year-round in a remote valley in the central Pyrenees. Her writing is naturalistic, paying close attention to physical, geological, and biological phenomena. Inspired by the anthropologist Anna Tsing, her work is driven by the question: How can we best use our research to stem the tide of destruction?
