Exploring the Landscape: Residents Visit Tunabreen and Tempelfjorden

Last week, residents Elize de Beer, Jessica MacMillan and Todd Anderson joined an unforgettable boat journey to Tunabreen and Tempelfjorden, spending a day immersed in one of Svalbard's most remarkable Arctic landscapes.

Travelling through Isfjorden and into Tempelfjorden, the group experienced mountain scenery and the ever-changing sea ice before arriving at the impressive glacier front of Tunabreen. The trip offered time to observe, reflect and experience the scale and complexity of the environment that surrounds Longyearbyen.

Field experiences like these are an important part of many residencies at Artica Svalbard. Whether through drawing, photography, writing, conversation or quiet observation, time spent in the landscape allows artists to deepen their understanding of place and develop new perspectives that often inform their work in unexpected ways.

We look forward to seeing how this shared experience finds its way into the residents' ongoing projects over the coming weeks.
