From Glaciers to Woodcuts: Todd Anderson in Residence
We are delighted to welcome artist and master printer Todd Anderson to Artica Svalbard for a residency this summer, nominated by Queen Sonja Print Foundation.
Born in Minnesota, USA, Anderson’s practice spans printmaking, digital photography, drawing, and book arts. For more than fifteen years, he has collaborated with scientists, writers, and fellow artists to create ambitious artist’s books and print portfolios exploring the global climate crisis. His work has investigated subjects including glacial retreat in North America and the Canadian Arctic, climate-threatened tree species in the deserts of the American Southwest, and paleoclimatology through Antarctic ice cores.
During his time in Svalbard, Anderson will continue his investigations into climate change through a combination of fieldwork and studio-based printmaking. Drawing inspiration from the archipelago’s glaciers and landscapes, he plans to create a new series of hand-carved woodcuts and intaglio prints, accompanied by a reflective written essay.
We look forward to following Todd’s research and creative process over the coming months and to opportunities for the local community to engage with his work through public presentations during his stay.
Welcome to Svalbard, Todd!
