We’re Delighted to Welcome Endi Poskovic
Artica Svalbard is delighted to welcome Endi Poskovic as one of our artists-in-residence this spring.
Originally from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poskovic is an internationally acclaimed artist whose work explores the intersections of printmaking, memory, and environmental awareness. Educated in Yugoslavia, Norway, and the United States, he began his creative life as a touring musician before transitioning into the visual arts. Since earning his M.F.A. from the State University of New York in 1993, he has exhibited globally—from the Shanghai Print Biennial to the Krakow International Triennial and the International Print Center in New York. His works are held in major public collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and Harvard University’s Fogg Art Museum.
Poskovic’s work has been recognised with numerous fellowships and awards, including those from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and the Rockefeller Bellagio Center. He is currently a Professor at the University of Michigan’s Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design, with additional appointments across several interdisciplinary research centres focusing on Japanese, Polish, European, and East European studies.
During his residency at Artica Svalbard, Poskovic will begin Field, a two-phase project that uses printmaking to explore how landscapes—both physical and emotional—shape memory and narrative. His time in Svalbard will offer the opportunity to engage directly with the region’s dramatic terrain, shifting climate, and layered histories. These experiences will inform a new series of colour woodcut prints developed further in his Ann Arbor studio between August 2025 and September 2026.
Building on his acclaimed Majestic Series and Crossing Series, Field invites audiences to reflect on the relationship between place, memory, and environmental change—connecting distant geographies through the language of print.
