The Life, The Literature And The Language In-Between

  • Artica Svalbard Vei 608-3 Longyearbyen Svalbard (map)

Welcome to an evening of literary discussion with Norwegian PEN-nominated author Alena Kazlova.

Alena Kazlova (Anka Upala) is a Belarusian writer and translator of literature from English, Finnish and Swedish.

She is a member of the Belarusian PEN Centre and a member of the Union of Belarusian Writers where she also coordinated the work of the writing school.

Her first book, a collection of poetry and short prose, was published in 2012, followed by the autobiographical novel To the Snow-covered Isle. The latter was then shortlisted for the Jerzy Giedroyc Literary Award in 2018, and took 3rd place in the writers’ vote as Book of the Year.

Alena Kazlova will be interviewed by Svalbardian, writer and journalist Line Nagell Ylvisåker, where Kazlova will be talking about writing literature in a Belarusian context and about the impact that learning a foreign language made on her life and work as a writer.

Join us for an inspirational evening where we will serve food and drinks while listening to the Life, the Literature and the Language In-between.
