As the dark season settles in, we are continuing our series of creative writing workshops.

Join us Wednesday November 13th (18-20hr) at Artica Svalbard for a creative writing workshop led by Longyearbyen-based writer Kelsey Camacho.

This is a general writing workshop open to everyone and free of charge, from beginning writers to those who do it every day. The goal is to provide a space where people can express what they want to, in whichever language they are comfortable with. Sharing is not a requirement, but those who want to are more than welcome to do so.

In this workshop, anything goes: write about a dream, or a place you keep returning to, or the monster under the bed, or your future pet’s favorite sweater—or something you never expected to write about.

During the workshop, we will experiment with different forms of writing and respond to both visual and written prompts. We will also read short texts from published writers and discuss their techniques. The various exercises in the workshop are designed to warm up and inspire the mind through the use of memory, imagination, metaphor, and detail.

Let these dark days serve as a time for reflection and creativity, and join us for a couple hours!

About the moderator: Kelsey Camacho is a resident of Longyearbyen, where she works as a dog sledding guide and writer. In November and December 2017, she was in residence at Artica and wrote non-fiction essays about her experiences on Svalbard. Her work has appeared in Dark Mountain, Nowhere, Proximity, Entropy, and elsewhere.
