At a time when the pace of our lives can feel overwhelming, it is easy to lose a sense of perspective and connection to what truly matters. Being in nature together with others can offer a way to restore balance and reconnect with the small, precious moments of everyday life.
Drawing on her experience as both a psychiatrist and an Arctic nature guide, Olga Tingstedt invites participants to join a process-based workshop series taking place across five sessions. Each workshop will be centred around an excursions in the landscape surrounding Longyearbyen.
What to expect
Together, we will explore areas such as Adventdalen, Hiorthamn, and nearby ice caves, travelling either on foot or by cross-country skis depending on the conditions and the group. Additional routes may be planned as the series develops, and in some cases we may travel further from town if logistics allow. During longer breaks we may set up a tent or use open cabins to stay warm.
While the excursions themselves are not intended to be physically demanding, participants should be prepared for Arctic conditions. It is precisely at this meeting point between movement and dwelling in nature that restorative experiences can emerge. Sharing practical tasks as a group also helps create a sense of connection and collective journey.
Along the way, we will engage in simple outdoor activities such as building in snow, creative exercises, sitting around a fire, or cooking outdoors. Through short guided reflections and exercises, we will explore themes such as meaning, identity, belonging, curiosity, and play — allowing insights to arise both through conversation and through the experience of the landscape itself.
