Nora Adwan is an Irish–Palestinian artist based in Bergen. Her work explores how identity, memory, and the body are shaped by displacement and exile, with a particular focus on female histories and perspectives. Drawing on multiple geographical contexts and personal experiences, Adwan weaves narratives that move between poetry, fiction, and documentary. Translation and the shifting of languages are recurring strategies in her practice, revealing both loss and transformation as stories move across borders.
During her residency at Artica Svalbard, Adwan will gather sound and video imagery—listening for the hums, structures, and lights of the Arctic landscape, and meeting residents to trace the human presence within it. This marks the initial research phase of a new, expansive video installation that connects Svalbard’s Arctic desert with other desert regions across the world. Through workshops and conversations, Adwan will explore how landscapes, geopolitics, and histories intersect, and how the relationships between bodies and territories echo across distant geographies.
