Todd Anderson is a mid-career artist and collaborative master fine art printer whose practice spans printmaking, digital photography, drawing, and book arts. Born in Minnesota, USA, he earned his MFA in Printmaking at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. For over fifteen years, Anderson has collaborated with scientists, writers, and fellow artists to produce monumentally scaled, limited-edition artist’s books and print portfolios addressing the global climate crisis.
His projects have investigated glacial retreat in North America and the Canadian Arctic, climate-threatened tree species in the deserts of the American Southwest, and paleoclimatology through Antarctic ice cores, among many other subjects. Anderson’s work has been shown in more than 125 exhibitions and acquired by over 35 institutions including the US Library of Congress, the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation, Stanford and Yale Universities, the New York Public Library, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His artworks have also appeared in film productions such as Dear Evan Hansen (Universal Studios, 2022) and The Idea of You (Amazon Prime Video, 2023). He is represented by galleries in Atlanta, Bozeman (Montana), and New York City. Anderson lives in South Carolina with his spouse, two children, a cat, and a flock of chickens.
During his residency at Artica Svalbard, Anderson will continue his investigations into the global climate crisis by combining fieldwork with studio-based printmaking. Drawing inspiration from Svalbard’s glaciers, he plans to create a new series of hand-carved woodcuts and possibly intaglio prints, paired with a reflective written essay. He also hopes to share his work with the local community through public lectures during his stay.
