In July 2022 resident Marianne Solberg shared some of her recommendations for things to read and listen to (English and Norwegian versions below).
ARKIPELAGO (I am sailing) – Landscape and art pioneers in an Arctic drama.
Arkipelago is a collection, here in an Arctic or sub-polar context:
1. Investigations in connection with a Nordic or Arctic aesthetic with examples from what Professor of Theatrical Research (UiB) Knut Ove Arntzen (no.) calls an Artic drama - Landscape Theatre and the North : Lullelic reflections.
2. The Swedish poet and Professor of Literature Gunnar D Hansson’s (swe.) book Lomonosovbreen (2009). Throughout the Polar regions of the North Sea and only a little beyond the North Pole there is, deep beneath the ice sheets, a mountain range called the Lomonosov Range, named so for the Russian scientist and poet Michail Lomonosov. Hansson took part in a 2009 expedition on the icebreaker Oden to investigate the Lomonosov Range and its geological formations. The book also contains a discussion about the terms and conditions of literature regarding the sublime arctic and what one might call a distinctly “Arctic poetry”.
3. The painter, anarchist, dadaist, fanzine director, mail-art collector and later Maximalist, Guttorm Nordø (no.), Klassekampen, Fra gata til biblioteket here are two intelligent yet witty books on his power art presentation. INK! (2019) and TEKST! (2021). Art Historian Øyvind Storm-Bjerke's talks with Nordø here (in Norwegian only):
Here Nordø tells us about his meeting with the German Expressionist Jörg Immendorff and Albert Hölen, and how the idea of the notion of the “Minimalistic” was created in Norway in tandem with its American counterpart.
4. The poet Erling Kittelsen (no.) and expert on Norse Mythology, having talked himself out of capital punishment, and having taken the initiative in organising a poetry festival on the boarder between North and South Korea. In his conception of the poet as a pathfinder through the Nordic as a means of connecting with the world, as a “rebel poet”. He has been to Ukraine over five times and is publishing a new book to be released the autumn of 2022 containing retellings of Ukrainian poetry in close cooperation with Nazarii Nazar and accompanied by commentary on the poems, not unlike the publication from 2006 containing poetry written by East Asian monks on their deathbed; Diamantfjellene - dikt ved døden av Erling Kittelsen (English: “Selected poems” by Erling Kittelsen)
5. The Norwegian photographer Raymond Mosken (no.) works as an aerial photographer. This black and white photo-documentary project exists contextually with the books Courrier Sud and Night Flight by the French author Antoine St. Exépury. The documentary format is exploited in an existentialist exploration of human activity in nature in a nordic noir-tradition, often with a perspective that tastes of the absurd.
6. Selected titles from Norwegian literature and European theatres: the poet and performance artist Øyvind Berg (no.) Together with the performance group BAKtruppen Berg (as a play-write, actor and director) was turning European theatres scenes upside down from the late 1980's to the beginning of 2000, and his plays have been performed many times, at many theatres over years. Berg is also a translator of literature and theatre plays, like Brecht's Der Kaukasische Kreidekreis and Shakespeare's Hamlet amongst others. His work has been translated to Danish, German and English, for example Totschweigetaktiken (transl. by Anthony Barnett) (1991).

ARKIPELAGO (jeg seiler) - Landskap og kunstpionerer i et arktisk drama.
Arkipelago er en samling av øyer, her i en arktisk og subpolar sammenheng:
- I en rekke av undersøkelser av har professor i teatervitenskap (UiB) Knut Ove Arntzen omtalt en nordisk eller arktisk estetikk, med eksempler fra det han kaller en arkipelagisk eller et arktisk drama og landskapsdialoger i det geokulturelle rommet; en interesse for det stedsspesifikke. Landscape Theatre and the North : Lullelic reflections.
- Den svenske poeten og litteraturprofessoren Gunnar D Hanssons bok “Lomonosovbreen ” (2009). Gjennom Nordishavet og rett etter Nordpolen strekker det seg dypt under isdekket en bergkjede kalt Lomonosovryggen, oppkalt etter den russiske forskeren og poeten Michail Lomonosov. Hansson deltok i 2009 på en ekspedisjon med isbryteren Oden som skulle undersøke Lomonosov ryggens geologiske formasjoner. Boken inneholder også en diskusjon om litteraturens vilkår, om det arktisk sublime og om hva som skulle kunne kalles en arktisk poetikk.

hvor Nordø forteller om sitt møte med den tyske ekspresjonisten Jörg Immendorff og med Albert Hölen, og hvordan maksimalisme-begrepet oppsto i Norge simultant med det amerikanske.
- Dikteren Erling Kittelsen som har snakket seg ut av en dødsdom og tatt initiativ til en poesifestival på grensa mellom Nord- og Sør-Korea. Som poet forsøker Kittelsen å møte verden som en stifinner eller som motstandsdikter, i en dialog mellom det nordiske og verden. Hans ukrainske gjendiktninger (i samarbeid med Nazarii Nazar) kommer høsten 2022, ikke ulikt utgivelsen fra 2006, som kommentardiktning; Kittelsens svar til dikt skrevet av østasiastiske munker på dødsleiet. - Flyfotografiene til Raymond Mosken Dette svart/hvitt fotodokumentasjonsprosjektet inngår I en sammenheng med bøkene Courrier Sud og Night Flight av den franske forfatteren og postflyveren Antoine St. Exépury. Flyfoto-formatet benyttes til en eksistensialistisk undersøkelse av menneskelig virksomhet i naturen, ofte i et absurdistisk perspektiv og alltid innenfor en nordic noir.
- Poeten Øyvind Bergs forfatterskap fra livet på nordkalotten: “Fra Poe si tid” (1993), “Kjærlighetc.” (1997), “Nede fortelling” (1995), “Poesi og lærepenger” (2009). Berg var mangeårig deltager som poet, dramatiker og skuespilleri BAKtruppen, et teaterkompani som satte Ibsen-teatret på hodet. Mange av forestillingene han står bak er spilt mange ganger på mange scener i mange land over mange år. Som oversetter har han blant annet arbeidet med Shakespeare's “Hamlet”, Brecht's “Der kaukasische Kreidekreis” og Ibsens “Samfunnets støtter”.
